My grandfather had a grocery store in the same neighborhood that I’m living in, the place where I’m raising a son myself.  I might be a rare thing these days, being one who didn’t move around a lot like so many of my schoolmates have, and have happily settled in the same place I was born.  I like the continuity of it, because it gives me a sense of place here that my immigrant grandparents only dreamed about.  To think I might be living their dream can be a very humbling experience, so on my best days I try to do the kinds of things that would make them proud.
